Counselling / Psychology / Mental Health

I’m Carly and I have been working in the field of trauma since 2012, initially without realizing. Working for organizations and programs addressing mental health, homelessness, family conflict, the justice system, education gaps, addictions, and physical health, I began to notice a common thread: that trauma and negative life experiences have lasting effects on many aspects of life, including overall wellness, and that the path to healing is often through exploring and addressing these past hurts.

Now, as a counsellor, I work from an attachment lens, which means that together we’ll explore how early experiences of care, love, neglect, and/or abuse influence your current life, wellness, emotion regulation, and relationships. I also use an embodied approach, which means we’ll explore your memories, deeply held beliefs, emotions, and thoughts along with physical sensations and information held in your body.

I strive to be mindful of where you’re at, what you are comfortable with and needing, and collaborate with you through the process. I balance warmth and care with honesty and genuineness and truly enjoy my work as a counsellor and psychotherapist. I will keep us both accountable to the goals we have set and to progress towards the life you want.

I have training and experience in using EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing among other types of psychotherapy. I specialize in working with people who have experienced early childhood or later in life trauma or negative experiences that continue to affect their functioning and well-being. I work with youth aged 16 and up as well as adults of any age.

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with BCACC and have a Master’s in Family Relations and Human Development from the University of Guelph in Ontario.

I would be pleased to connect if you have any questions, would like to see if we’re the right fit with a complimentary 15 minute phone consultation, or to schedule an appointment.

You can learn more about me and my approach at my website carlyingramcounselling.com.
